Considered a historical fact

A hundred women accompanied by reform and conservative rabbis managed recently to introduce in the Kotel - name in the Hebrew of the wailing wall - 12 rolls of the Torah, one by each tribe of Israel, and pray with them in the sacred place. It is an unprecedented event that violates the laws of the Rabbinate that manages the Kotel, and that only allows use for prayer scrolls deposited in the wailing wall. Only men can use the rolls with the sacred texts, because women, according to the Orthodox interpretation of Judaism, can not even touch them.

But for the first time, they not only introduced the scrolls of the Torah, but that both men and women could pray with them. First separately, each in its area of prayer, then, all together, but not in the Azarat Yisrael - the space designated by the israeli Government for a future joint place of prayer - but in the same square of the Kotel, near segregated traditional spaces.

Shoftim (judges) 4:4-5 "Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, judged Israel at that time; and sitting under the Palm tree of Deborahbetween Ramah and Bethel in the mountainous region of Ephraim; and the children of Israel rose to her to ask for judgment."

The arrival of rapeseeds with rolls of the Torah to the wailing wall itself was not an easy task. The procession that went through the wall ofthe old city of Jerusalem by the door of the wastes - more direct access to the Jewish quarter of the town ancient Jerusalem - Kotel, overwhelmed singing the usual security checkpoint and sang the Alleluia Hebrew when he stepped on the sacred square. Men and women wore the rolls. Them, hugging them tightly against his chest, as if it werea baby. Between booing and shouting they succeeded. "It is not the first time that we are entering the Kotel with the rolls and we stop this, but it is the first time that we do it on the sly," acknowledged rapeseed Sandra Kochmann, of the conservative Masorti movement.

It was a historic moment according to the experts, he contributed much the men of the Jewish reform movement. They were surrounding women, and made shield that took most of the shoving and swipes fired by Israel's ultra-Orthodox Jews, who were trying to snatch the scrolls of the Torah to prevent women to introduce them in their space of prayer in the western wall which generated a heavy deployment of police.
